Ian is a litigator with a wide-ranging, results-oriented practice. Ian divides his time between providing advice and representing clients in the areas of construction law, commercial law, estate litigation, professional negligence, employment law and under the broad heading of administrative law.

In July 2019, Ian was selected to become a Fellow in the Construction Lawyers Society of America (CLSA). The CLSA Fellowship – which is limited to 1,200 active practicing lawyers worldwide, reflects the excellence and accomplishments of its Fellowship in construction law and closely related specialties. With over 52,000 practicing lawyers in Ontario, of which only 38 Fellowships are available, Ian’s selection to the CLSA speaks directly to the depth of his expertise and high ethical standard of practice.

Leveraging his experience and high ethical standards, Ian has successfully obtained his certification in Foundational Conflict Management & Mediation. He has joined the ADR Institute of Ontario and Canada with the goal of becoming a chartered mediator.

Ian obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Alberta in 1985 and a law degree from the University of Ottawa in 1991. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993.

Ian co-founded MBCs predecessor firm in February 1993 and is currently the firm managing partner. He is a dedicated member of the Ottawa legal community and sat on the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA) Executive serving as the President of the CCLA for the 2013-2014 term.

Ian has also served on many community boards and been active in coaching and managing youth soccer teams in the Ottawa region.

Away from the office, Ian and his wife, Nicole, enjoy touring Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec on their motorcycles. They also can be found enjoying a passion for Scuba Diving often accompanied on their outings by their daughter Celine.
